Root Canal
Root canal therapy is a dental procedure that is used to treat a damaged or infected tooth. The procedure involves removing the damaged or infected pulp from inside the tooth, cleaning and disinfecting the tooth, and sealing it to prevent further damage or infection. If you’re experiencing tooth pain or sensitivity, a root canal may be necessary to alleviate your symptoms and prevent further dental problems.
At Shivam Dental Care, we offer root canal therapy to our patients who require this treatment. Our experienced dental team will work closely with you to ensure that your root canal procedure is as comfortable and effective as possible.
Here's what you need to know about root canal therapy:
Why is root canal therapy necessary?
Root canal therapy is necessary when the pulp inside a tooth becomes damaged or infected. This can occur due to a variety of reasons, including decay, trauma, or a cracked or broken tooth. If left untreated, the infection can spread to the surrounding teeth and gums, causing further damage and potential tooth loss.
What are the signs that root canal therapy may be necessary?
Signs that you may need a root canal include:
- Severe tooth pain
- Sensitivity to hot or cold temperatures
- Swelling or tenderness in the gums
- Discoloration of the tooth
- A pimple or bump on the gums near the affected tooth
What is the process of getting a root canal?
The root canal process typically involves the following steps:
- Local anesthesia: The affected area will be numbed with local anesthesia to ensure that you’re comfortable during the procedure.
- Removal of pulp: The damaged or infected pulp will be removed from inside the tooth.
- Cleaning and shaping: The inside of the tooth will be cleaned and shaped to prepare it for filling.
- Filling: The tooth will be filled with a biocompatible material to prevent further infection.
- Restoration: A crown or filling may be placed on top of the tooth to restore its function and appearance.
What is the recovery process like?
After a root canal, it’s common to experience some sensitivity or discomfort for a few days. Your dentist may recommend over-the-counter pain medication or prescribe medication to help alleviate your symptoms. It’s important to avoid chewing on the affected tooth until the final restoration is in place.
